Privacy policy

This policy explains how AppForge Digital handles information in Allergen Signal on the web, on Android (Google Play) and on iPhone and iPad (App Store).

Information kept on your device

Your selected allergen profile, product history and on-device usage estimate are stored in local app or browser storage on your device. They are not uploaded to an AppForge Digital database. Checking food does not require an account.

Optional account

To subscribe to a paid plan, or to see a plan on another device, you verify your email address with a one-time code or link. We then keep your email address and an account ID (with our authentication provider, Supabase), your plan, and your monthly counts of barcode checks and AI photo reads so the plan's limits can be applied. The same email sign-in is shared by AppForge Digital's other apps.

Deleting your account

Signed in, open Plans and tap Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, your plan record and usage counts, and clears the profile and history on that device. Deleting your account does not cancel a store subscription - cancel it in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. You can also email us to request deletion.

Barcode checks

When you check a barcode, the barcode number and selected allergen profile are sent to the Allergen Signal service. The service requests product information from the community-maintained Open Food Facts database. Open Food Facts may receive the barcode request and technical connection data such as an IP address.

Food-label photos and AI

Before your first label read the app asks your permission. When you choose Read label, the cropped photo and selected allergen profile are sent through AppForge Digital's Netlify-hosted service to OpenAI, which extracts the ingredient and allergen text. The request asks OpenAI not to store it. The service may create a one-way image fingerprint and cache the resulting label assessment to avoid paying for an identical repeat read. The original photo is not stored by AppForge Digital.

Do not photograph people, prescriptions, medical records, addresses or other personal information. Crop the image to the food label only.

Payments

Subscriptions are sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play, which process the payment. We use RevenueCat to confirm which plan you have bought; it receives your account ID and purchase details from the store. AppForge Digital never receives card details.

No advertising or tracking

Allergen Signal does not include advertising, behavioural tracking or analytics SDKs, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We do not sell personal information.

Camera and photos

Camera permission is used only when you choose to scan a barcode or take a label photo. Barcode camera video is processed on the device and is not saved. Photo access is used only for a label photo you choose.

Deleting local information

Use Clear history and Clear profile in the app. Clearing site data or uninstalling the app also removes locally stored information.

Children

Allergen Signal is a general-audience food-label tool and is not directed to children. A parent or guardian should supervise any use by a child, especially because food allergy decisions can be serious.
